Lloyd and Hanes: Learners of Life
Life always has a lesson, its just up to us which lesson we decide to learn.
There were once two people who never met each other. Lived in different worlds, different places. Let's call them Hanes and Lloyd
But they had extremely similar life experiences:
Both of them lost their fathers at an early age.
Both of them had been judged by people and misunderstood.
Both used to come from prominent families, now ruined.
And both of them, used to have terrible and spoiled personalities.
And, at their lowest point, both of them had looked back into their lives and contemplated on them.
But this is where the similarity ends.
Because Hanes looked at his, saw how ugly his attitude was, but blamed others for his personality, and why he wasn't disciplined. He blamed his dad for dying early, and for never being there for him. He learned to make excuses.
Whereas when Lloyd confronted his, he saw the ugliness of it, and tried to improve. He sometimes failed, but asked for forgiveness and tried to move forward, always trying to be as good as he can be. He learned to be kind.
Hanes was ungrateful. He never obeyed the rules and never even helped out on chores. And once, when he left home and didnt return for a long while, he was scolded because the people who cared for him worried that he was gone. In return, spoke badly about the people who helped him. But his lies were heard and he was kicked out. He explained away that the people who helped were simply living in a toxic community.
He learned to malign people to protect his pride.
Lloyd too had left the home of his benefactors and when he was scolded, apologized. While he didn't understand why at first, he tried to put himself in the shoes of the people who took care of him, and found that they only scolded him because they were worried.
He learned to be humble, and to accept feedbacks for growth.
Hanes, who had been kicked out, maligned the family that took care of him. For a time, he successfully ruined their name, but eventually, the truth came out and everyone ended up hating Hanes, and nobody wanted to help him because of this. Hanes learned that nobody cared for him, and decided to only care for himself. Hanes learned to be selfish.
Lloyd, who had apologized, was forgiven. He became grateful to the people who had helped him become a better person. He saw all the good that was done for him and decided to return the favor by helping others. Lloyd learned to be selfless.
And because Hanes was selfish, he cared only for himself, and harmed others who was in his way. Eventually his misdeeds was known far and wide, and everyone hated him; no community welcomed him. He died angry, bitter, alone.
But the people who Lloyd helped grew and prospered, and, remembering Lloyd's kindness to them, helped Lloyd grow and prosper as well. He died surrounded by people, well loved, and happy.
Life tends to put us in similar situations to others. But everyone learns a lesson from each situation. It's up to us to learn the right lessons, because while a lot of things are out of our control, how we learn and adapt to those things certainly are. It's up to you to see the right lesson plan .
